"Figure out what leadership cares most about and frame your arguments for change in a way that fits their narrative."

Add something about servant leadership here.

This is the first Wholehearted Manager newsletter I've received. If the others are / will be like this, it's a terrific balance of:

  • You are not alone
  • Here's what I learned
  • Here are some solutions
  • You are not alone

There's a book, Managing Up, that I was introduced to a long time ago, and continue to read each year. It's good (for me) to realize we don't all have it figured out and noone is perfect, no matter how much Keith Hernandez thinks he is.

While I don't necessarily agree with the section "Find likeminded partners", that might be more a style thing than a company thing. Of course, if the company has a toxic work culture, it's definitely a company thing.

Which is why the ending statement is both unnerving and comforting:

"...consider this your blanket permission to find somewhere that values you for you and at least listens to what you advocate for - even if that doesn’t result in change, you deserve to feel heard and have explanations from leadership about why things can’t happen..."
