From a brand / marketing perspective, this must make developers furious. If I built a great app but wasn't able to provide a fix / update, how do customers view me? Lazy? Uncaring?

If the developer can't fix or update their app because the manufacturer decides they aren't going to release the latest version for a specific device, where does that leave the consumer?

Are phones cheap enough now, and are service plans open / portable enough now, that throw-away devices are the norm?

Will they be?
