As someone who remains on CS4, I can certainly understand why some customers would be unhappy. At least, in the short run.
There’s a nice break-down in the article above about the pricing over the longer-term for different types of customers.
This must have been a gut-wrenching decision to make but probably the right one, simply from a cost perspective. While customers probably won’t see it initially, I imagine (and hope!) Adobe spends more time working with customer requirements and updates instead of tucking themselves away for a few years working on the next version (and attempting to combat piracy).
