Upper West Side: Meet Your Neighbor, Paul

Previous Chat: Adrian

I met Paul on the Upper West Side during one of our Work from Home meetings. What stood out about Paul was that he fit right in, as if we all had been pals for a very long time. He asks lots of the right questions and he’s in telecommunications via the Cable industry, both of which I’m a huge fan.

He seemed to be a great person to talk a bit more about the Upper West Side.

You can find Paul at his website and on Twitter (@psolly0108).

Who are you?
A Cable and Broadcast Television distribution industry professional with extensive experience working with large providers as well as independent operators across the U.S.

I have been married for 7 years and have a 6 year old son, Joshua, who is in 1st grade at P.S. 84. Some of my hobbies include listening to music (I’m always interested in learning about new bands and singers), running, playing and watching sports (especially with my son), traveling, being with my family, pop culture, coaching and taking advantage of what the city has to offer.

What have you been up to lately?
I’m currently in-between jobs but have been taking advantage of this time to network and build new relationships. I’ve also been fortunate to enjoy the time with my son and watch him go through Kindergarten and now 1st grade. It’s an experience I will never forget and will look back on when I return to work. I can only hope he will have the memories of his Dad coming into his classroom to read a book or chaperone a field trip.

I’ve also taken advantage of some Broadway plays, seen lots of movies, riding my bike and running in the parks (it’s nice and quiet during the middle of the day).

How did you end up on the UWS?
I’m originally from Long Island and went to school in upstate New York, I have been living on the Upper West Side for 10 years after living in both the West Village and the Upper East Side. I moved to the UWS in 2002 with my then girlfriend (who lucky for me became my wife) on 81st and Columbus and now live on 96th and Columbus.

Any recent UWS outings you’d like to share?
Thanksgiving is my family’s favorite holiday and time of year in the city. We enjoy visiting our old block for the blowing up of the Macy’s balloons and returning the next morning to watch the parade. It’s a great memory for my wife and I after living on the street for a few years and now to share it with our son makes it even more special.

We always enjoy eating at some of our favorite restaurants (Good Enough To Eat, Mila Cafe, Fred’s and Ocean Grill) as well as taking advantage of both Central Park and Riverside.

You are in the Cable industry – What’s the next big thing?
Interactive applications. This will enhance advertising and marketers actively engage viewers with compelling invitations to receive brand and product information.

Who should I chat with next?
The people that write for MyUpperWest or West Side Rag.
